Save YouTube subtitles as SRT, VTT or TXT files

Subtitles as a file you can use anywhere

Subtitles on YouTube only live inside YouTube's player. If you download a video to watch offline, edit a clip or prepare a translation, you need the subtitles as a separate file. Klipova reads the subtitles of a public video and gives you a standard SRT, VTT or TXT file in one click.

Every language the creator added

Many videos — especially talks, courses and popular channels — come with subtitles in several languages, added by the creator or the community. All of them are listed, together with YouTube's automatic captions in the original language of the video.

Made for players and editors

  • SRT for VLC, Plex, Kodi, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut and most other tools.
  • VTT for web pages and HTML5 video players.
  • TXT for reading, searching or translating the text.

Overlapping automatic captions are tidied up so that only one line appears on screen at a time.

YouTube subtitle download questions

Which subtitle format should I choose?

SRT works almost everywhere — VLC, most video editors and media servers. VTT is the web standard used by HTML5 players. TXT is plain text for reading or translation.

What's the difference between creator subtitles and automatic captions?

Creator subtitles were written or uploaded by the video's owner and are usually accurate. Automatic captions come from YouTube's speech recognition and can contain mistakes.

Do automatic captions overlap on screen?

YouTube's automatic captions often have overlapping lines. When creating SRT and VTT files we adjust the timing so only one line is shown at a time.

How do I use the SRT file with a downloaded video?

Give the SRT file the same name as the video file (for example video.mp4 and video.srt) and keep them in the same folder. Most players load it automatically.

Can I get subtitles in a language the creator didn't add?

No. YouTube's automatic translations aren't available to our service reliably, so only the creator's languages and the original automatic captions are offered.

Does it work for every video?

It works for public videos that have subtitles or automatic captions. Private videos and videos without any captions can't be used.
